DESCRIPTION: Niclosamide is obtained by condensing chlorosalicylic acid in the presence of phosphorus chloride. Treating with mono-ethanolamine produces the salt used as a molluscicide.
MAIN ADVANTAGES: Verticalization of the process, aimed at the use of domestic raw material (salicylic acid). High yields. Few steps needed to obtain product.
MAIN APPLICATIONS: As a molluscicide and as a drug for treating cestode infection.
STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT: Process optimized in laboratory stage using various solvents, temperatures, and catalysts. Tested and approved as molluscicide.
