PHARMACOLOGY OF NATURAL PRODUCTS: IDENTIFICATION OF SUBSTANCES WITH POTENTIAL THERAPEUTICAL VALUE

DESCRIPTION: The aim of the project is to isolate and identify compounds from plants from the Amazon, the Atlantic Forest, and the Cerrados (savannas) with anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antivenin, and analgesic activity.

MAIN ADVANTAGES: Reduction of national technological dependency on imported pharmaceuticals and raw materials, and increase on knowledge of the therapeutical potential of Brazilian flora.

MAIN APPLICATIONS: New pharmaceuticals for physiopathology of great interest to experimental science and the public health field.

STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT: Studies are in the experimental stage.
