Genome Project Databases
The NCBI provides a text-based search system for dbEST.
A short guide on how to use it is posted here: It is written for the filarial
ests but the general system is the same for all species.
In addition, the NCBI ENTREZ system can be used to serch for keywords etc.
connected to sequences.
There are several different facilities available for searching the est datasets.
You can do it by email or through the world wide web.
The NCBI provide a browser for their databases
called ENTREZ, and on it is a "Taxonomy" field which allows you
to screen all the sequences by species. The list collated here was made
in about 10 mins using NENTREZ, a client server version of the software
available free from the NCBI.
Cloned DNAs corresponding to the ESTs (and as
the physical maps become more complete, the cosmids, BACs and YACs) are
available from the genome labs. For ESTs, the "submitter information"
in the dbEST file or the Genbank file should include a contact name and
address. The contact person will usually be able to send you either streaked
cells containing a plasmid, plasmid DNA or PCR product for your work .
