Uniquely-derivedsee
autapomorphy.
UNIX This is an operating
system (analogous to Windows or MacOS) with some powerful features such
as protected memory and scripting. UNIX was invented in Berkeley
in the early 1970s. The free UNIX operating system is LINUX.
UPGMA Unweighted Pair-Group
Method with Arithmathic Averaging. This is a method of producing
a dendrogram from a distance matrix.
This method was one of the first clustering algorithms and has largely
been discarded due to its inability to deal with matrices that are derived
from taxa that have evolved at unequal rates.
